Yes We Cannes!

Cannes Bann

So it’s been quite a while since I’ve added to the website, and even longer since I’ve sat down and tapped out a new blog, so now that my busy period is over and I’m done with my degree (it’s hard to justify watching a tonne of films when you’re supposed to be writing a dissertation) I thought I’d just put out a small post explaining the upcoming content over the next few weeks.

So far I’ve been casting a critical eye over pretty mainstream content; all films, shows and games that are available to the public and that I didn’t have to work very hard to get access to.

That’s about to change.

Thanks to my friends over at Take One, who I am an associate editor for, I’ve been given the insanely lucky opportunity to attend Cannes Film Festival this year. As this is an invitation only event, I’ll be sneaking my way into a higher class of people, and trying my best to look like I belong while I bring you sneak peaks and advanced reviews of some of the amazing independent films that we’ll be getting later this year.

I will also probably harass the odd film star into a selfie, so that’ll be fun – for me at least.

I’ve worked for a couple of film festivals by now, and attended my fair share of screenings and events, but never have I had the chance to attend cocktail mixers with studio execs, or walk the red carpet into the historic Lumiere Theatre, so this is all a bit of a shock to the system for me.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, be kind and patient with me if there’s a sudden drop-off in my spelling capabilities, and a surge in pictures of me pulling faces in front of beautiful vistas- because I will most likely be spending the week hopelessly drunk on delectable french wine and cheese.

As well as reviews and whatnot, i’m hoping to find the time to do a regular blog – one per day – just detailing what I’ve been up and the things/people I saw. There will also no doubt be embarrassed recollections of my horrible attempts to communicate with the locals with my pathetically slim french vocabulary.

All I’ve got so far is: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Ben. Je suis fantaisie.”… I don’t think that’s going to get me very far.

Anyway, mes amies, that’s all I’ve got for now. Chances are I’ll be working through my back log of content over the next week or so, then it’s off to Nice on Saturday 20th to hang out with my Take One buddies in a cheeky little villa. See y’all on the south coast!

Cheers!
